Worship at UUFE

We warmly invite you to join us for worship on a Sunday morning as we share in a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. We embrace theological diversity, welcome different beliefs, and affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Worship at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Easton is founded on a connection between reason and spirituality. The Rev. Gabi Parks, in cooperation with the Worship Committee, attempts to make sure the service is creative and engaging, diverse and inclusive, symbolic and culturally sensitive. We hope that everyone who attends will find inspiration to fresh thoughts, challenge to take action, and /or renewal of spiritual resources. The Sunday service is approximately one hour long. Dress can be described as respectful but comfortable. Before the service, announcements are made; and after the service a coffee hour is held.

Here is what you can expect on most Sundays:

Worship begins with the Lighting of the Chalice, the symbol of Unitarian Universalism. It “… symbolizes the spirit of our work” (Hotchkiss, UUA). At the end of the service the chalice light is extinguished and the congregation is urged to “take the flame with you” into the world.

Music is an important part of most of our worship services. We sing two or three hymns, with our remarkable choir offering beautiful music many Sundays.

We recite the UUFE Covenant, printed in the bulletin. It expresses our commitment to each other and to our local and global community.

The Thoughts for All Ages is primarily directed at the children and youth, but is enjoyed by all. At the end of this part of the service, children and youth go to their religious education classes for the remainder of the service.

The sharing of Joys and Sorrows is a time during the service when we show each other support and caring in good times and in bad. It reinforces the interdependent web of life that we acknowledge in our community.

The following minutes of silence invite the congregation to prayer or reflection. A Musical Meditation concludes this quiet period of reflection.

On three Sundays every month, the Sermon is offered by our minister; on the fourth (and fifth) Sunday, a lay person or guest minister speaks. Sermons mirror a broad spectrum of theologies and may challenge or illuminate our thinking about ultimate truth and meaning, or may offer thoughtful commentary on aspects of living in a complex world. The standard format may be changed on an occasional Sunday by a more “free-wheeling” program, incorporating intergenerational drama, members sharing stories of their personal journeys, or multimedia components.

Come and join with us in our shared quest to “nurture the spirit and help heal the world.” Hope to see you soon!
