Worship at UUFE
"Unitarian Universalist worship is as diverse as it is important ... when UU's gather for worship, they intend to create some kind of shared and worthwhile experience." -- Handbook of Religious Services
At UUFE, this is carried out on most Sundays in a format of: Readings from sources as varied as ancient scripture to modern poetry; a traditional Chalice Lighting; sharing of Joys & Sorrows; Hymns and other Music for Meditation; and a Sermon by our minister or guest speaker. This standard format may be enlivened on any given Sunday by a more "free-wheeling" program, such as a visiting theater group; musical presentation by a guest choir; individual members sharing stories of their spiritual journeys; or perhaps an original, interactive experience created by our newly formed Worship Associates group. The common thread is our hope that all persons in attendance, whether faithful members or first-time visitors, will find inspiration and renewal.
Maybe the words of one of our favorite hymns says it best:
Here we have gatheredGathered side by side;
Circle of kinship
Come and step inside!
May all who seek here
Find a kindly word;
May all who speak here
Feel they have been heard
Sing now together
This our hearts' own song
Worship enriches us
In worship service, we search for the divine within and beyond ourselves.
Our search for truth and meaning extends in many directions.
