Introducing Carol Engle

Except for a period of 10 years when she lived in North Carolina, Carol has lived most of her life in the Easton area. She is fortunate in having her five sisters living in Maryland and her mother living in Easton, while her two children live nearby. A son, Scott, will soon enter Dental School at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Her daughter, Anna, is a junior at University of Maryland, College Park.

Carol attended public schools on the Eastern Shore and transferred from Chesapeake College to the University of Maryland University College in College Park, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies. She is presently Director of Information Technology at the Vietnam Veterans of America in Silver Spring. Her commute from Easton will be easier in January when she starts renting a room in Silver Spring three days a week. On the days when she isn’t in Silver Spring she will be able to work from her home in Easton.

A feeling of disillusionment toward organized religion prompted Carol to answer an online survey that consisted of 20 questions regarding her attitudes on various concepts of religion. The results of the survey indicated a “match” with both the Unitarian Universalist and the Quaker faiths. Her first contact with us was her attendance at an Adult Education class where she felt quite comfortable within a small, welcoming group of members. Here, and later at Sunday services, she gained an appreciation of the concept of an evolving religion and found a sense of community.

Despite her busy schedule, Carol has recently discovered two new interests: knitting and sewing. Her nieces and nephews have been the beneficiaries of her knitting, and their wardrobes now sport some great scarves and hats. In addition, Carol has already joined our Social Justice Committee and attended a seminar in Brooklyn, New York City sponsored by the UU United Nations. As a result, the Social Justice Committee will be considering steps our Fellowship might take to implement the precepts of this UN campaign.

We warmly welcome Carol into the Fellowship and express gratification that one of our new members has already taken such an active part in causes of concern to our faith.
